故事发生在湘西土家族苗族自治州凤凰县的一个美丽苗寨。翁翠菊是一个美丽可爱的七、八岁苗家姑娘。由于阿爸病逝，家里的生活比较困难。为此，阿妈和阿哥常年外出打工，留下年幼的翠菊和七、八十岁高龄的婆婆相依为命。 春节前夕，婆婆带着翠菊去赶年场。场上，翠菊被一件漂亮的红棉袄所吸引，她特别想要婆婆给她买一件，但婆婆囊中羞涩，没有买。电影学院的学生来湘西采风，住在苗寨，并拍摄了不少民俗的DV，在回放DV时，画面有小姑娘阿香穿红棉袄的镜头，大家在夸阿香的红棉袄漂亮时，无意又触动了翠菊。看到翠菊伤心，婆婆很心痛，她决定将已去世丈夫送给自己那对最珍贵的“定情”银耳环当掉，给翠菊买红棉袄，她要翠菊高高兴兴穿上红棉袄上一回“电视”。在银铺外，一个卖气球的小商贩在向翠菊推销气球时不小心掉落了一些钱，翠菊赶紧把钱捡起来交给婆婆。尽管她们很需要钱，善良的婆婆还是毫不犹豫地带翠菊赶...。Two men meet in a bar in Las Vegas and discover that they have one big problem in common - their wives.
